Blaming herself for her sister's fatal zoo accident, Maya overdoses in her mother's attic. Far away, a cafeteria employee named Claudio is gunned down on a university campus. Meeting in the afterlife, they are welcomed by a silly angel who pushes people towards life-changing insights, hoping to wake them from their near-death experiences. Unfortunately, this particular angel has a poor understanding of human psychology, solely relying on academic publications to make sense of people's behaviors. Maya and Claudio continue their search for a life worth living, but as their brains run out of oxygen, their experiences grow ever stranger.
